Day 35

Message

SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 4th

Becoming a DISCIPLE in the New Year.

1 John 2:3-6 [NIV] “We know that we have come to know Him if we obey His commands. 4 The man who says, ‘I know Him,’ but does not do what He commands is a liar, and the truth is not in him. 5 But if anyone obeys His word, God's love is truly made complete in him. This is how we know we are in Him: 6 Whoever claims to live in Him must walk as Jesus did.”

THOUGHT for TODAY:

There is a difference between being a follower of Jesus, or a Christian, or a person who attends church, versus being a disciple of Christ. Jesus said in Matthew 28:19-20 [NIV], “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.” Jesus expects you and I to be His disciple. Disciples have many distinct qualities, but one stands out above all the rest…OBEIENCE. The only way that we can walk as Jesus did is to do what Jesus did. Jesus obeyed His Father. We obey our heavenly Father by walking in obedience to His Word, the Bible. Disciples live their lives in a reverent obedience to scripture. Their lives are lived through the biblical filter. Everything comes down to one question: “Am I being obedient to God’s Word?” I encourage you as we come to the end of the 37 Day Fast, pray and ask your Father to embed in you the heart of a disciple. Be a disciple. Be obedient to God’s holy Word!

Scripture

Luke 9:23-24 [VOICE] “If any of you want to walk My path, you’re going to have to deny yourself. You’ll have to take up your cross every day and follow Me. 24 If you try to avoid danger and risk, then you’ll lose everything. If you let go of your life and risk all for My sake, then your life will be rescued, healed, made whole and full.”

John 13:34-35 [NIV] “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. 35 By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”

1 Corinthians 11:1 [ETRV] “Follow my example, just as I follow the example of Christ.”

Acts 18:23 [NIV] “After spending some time in Antioch, Paul set out from there and traveled from place to place throughout the region of Galatia and Phrygia, strengthening all the disciples.”

Prayer

Father, my heart’s desire is to be more than a church goer. I want to be Your disciple, one who follows hard after You. Help me, Holy Spirit, to walk in obedience to the will of God and to His ways. I ask for a true hunger and thirst for the Word of God. May I walk and live in obedience to the Bible and not unto passing whims of my flesh or something that is happening within the culture of man. I desire to live as Jesus lived. Help me to love others the way Jesus loves people. May I follow the examples of other disciples who are living their lives according to the Word and truly walking and living in obedience to God’s righteousness. Make me into Your disciple. I ask for strength and blessing in the name of Jesus, amen!

What to pray

  • Pray for clarity concerning living unto the Lord and His Word.

  • Speak and declare that your desire is to be a disciple of Christ.

  • Ask the Lord to lead you as you look for others with this same heart, to be a disciple of Jesus.

  • Daily ask for strength to live in obedience to the Word of God.

  • Be open to God speaking to you concerning becoming a true disciple.
